Cisco Eliminates Core Knowledge Questions from CCIE R&S and CCIE Voice

Beginning on May 10, Cisco CCIE® Routing and Switching and CCIE Voice lab exams, in all global locations, will no longer include the four open-ended Core Knowledge questions. The total lab time will remain eight hours. For the CCIE Routing and Switching lab exam, this means that candidates will begin with the two-hour “Troubleshooting” section, followed by a six-hour “Configuration” section. For CCIE Voice, candidates will have the full eight hours to complete the integrated exam. Cisco Releases TSHOOT #642-832 Exam

Cisco announces the release of the TSHOOT #642-832 exam. The TSHOOT exam tests network engineers on the skills necessary to plan and perform regular maintenance on complex enterprise routed and switched networks while using technology-based practices and a systematic Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®)-compliant approach to perform network troubleshooting.

Now Available CCNP Webinar Recording

Cisco has updated its Cisco CCNP certification for network engineers through a comprehensive process involving customers and partners from around the globe. The revision focuses on the competencies that are needed to plan, implement, and troubleshoot routed and switched networks and is designed to be more predictive of job readiness. Now Available: CCNP ROUTE and SWITCH Exams

The Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE 642-902) and Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH 642-813) exams are now available through authorized Pearson VUE testing centers. Cisco has redesigned the CCNP courses and exams to reflect the evolving job tasks of global network professionals. The revised CCNP certification now requires candidates to pass three 120-minute exams ROUTE 642-902, SWITCH 642-813, and TSHOOT 642-832 that validate the key competencies of network engineers. Designed specifically for Cisco service provider customers and partners, and Cisco networking engineers, the new Cisco CCIE Service Provider Operations track is focused on developing the ability to operate complex service provider IP Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) infrastructures. The Cisco Service Provider Operations certification assesses and validates core IP NGN service provider network operations expertise, including the skills required of an expert (Tier III or Tier IV support) operations engineer to troubleshoot and maintain complex service provider IP NGN core (PE-PE and PE-CE) network infrastructures in both Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS XR operating environments. Core Knowledge Questions Now Available for All CCIE Labs

Effective January 4, 2010, the Cisco CCIE^® Service Provider, Storage, and Wireless lab exams will add a new type of question format in a section called Core Knowledge. In this new section, candidates will be asked a series of four open-ended questions that require a short written response to be entered into the computer, typically several words. The questions will be randomly drawn from a pool of questions on topics eligible for testing. Candidates can review the topics by visiting the CCIE track information on Cisco.com or the Cisco Learning Network. No new topics are being added as a result of this change.

Candidates will have up to 30 minutes to complete the Core Knowledge section and may not return to it once they have moved on. A passing score on the Core Knowledge section is required to achieve certification. Core Knowledge questions were implemented on Routing and Switching labs in February 2009 and Security labs in June 2009, and allow Cisco to maintain strong exam security and ensure that only qualified candidates are awarded CCIE certification. Candidates with exam dates on January 4, 2010 or later should expect to see the new question format on their lab exam. [More Information]
